Tapio Wirkkala spent thousands of hours refining the specialized glassblowing technique behind Ultima Thule. As molten glass meets wooden moulds, the surface evolves into its signature pattern—an effect that has made the collection a timeless symbol of Nordic craftsmanship since its introduction in 1968. The name references a mythical far-northern island said to be buried in ice and snow, where the sun never sets.
