The moon goddess motif dates back to jewelry from the Viking Era (800-1050). On their trade trips to the east, the Vikings stopped off on the Finnish coast to trade weapons and jewelry for furs. Drawing on Viking influences in their jewelry making, the Finnish added a distinct style. These pieces inspired later designers to create jewelry which captures the spirit of the Vikings.
