Kalevala Koru is a treasure house of striking jewelry motif's from the Viking Era (800-1050). On their trade trips to the east, the Vikings stopped off on the Finnish Coast to trade weapons and jewelry for fur. Kalevala has created replicas of some of these original pieces to form a very special jewelry collection.
This Kalevala Koru design is based on a pendant found in Lieto, in southern Finland. It dates from the Viking era, from 800 to 1050 AD. Thor, the highest of the Viking gods, used his hammer to rule and dispense justice. Thunder was thought to be the sound of Thor riding through the sky in his goat-drawn chariot. The Vikings also believed that Thor's hammer offered protection against evil spirits.
