Kalevala Koru is a treasure house of striking jewelry motifs from the Viking Era (800-1050). On their trade trips to the east, the Vikings stopped off on the Finnish Coast to trade weapons and jewelry for fur. Kalevala has created replicas of some of these original pieces to form a very special jewelry collection.

In Viking mythology, the bear was the strongest of the characters. It was told how the bear was the son of Hongatar, how the mother of the woodlands had given birth to him 'up in the heavens, on the shoulders of the Plough.' The bear was treated with great respect and fear, after all it was a half human and half forest being. And also, because he who wore the sign of the bear held sway over both people and nature.
