Aino Aalto's collection is iittala's oldest product and the epitome of mindful design. In the 1930's, most dinner services were vast and ornate, so Aino Aalto's radically simple design seemed as if it had arrived from the future. It seems like no coincidence that Aalto means wave in Finnish. Originally, Aalto called the collection Bölgeblick, which is Finnish word that describes the ripple effect created by throwing a stone into a lake. The series has since been renamed after Aino herself to honour this very special designer. Recently, rich colours have been added to the series, so that it will remain in production for another 70 years. Durable and versatile glassware made in Finland is suitable for everyday use.
